Meet Trentt Whiting!
As a writer you always want to cover people or events that interest you. You meet people that are just genuinely great people. Basketball can bring you close with people that you probably wouldn't meet. Trentt Whiting is a alumnus of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff like myself but unlike me he's Caucasian and a really great basketball player.
You might be thinking didn't Joshua go to HBCU, yes I did and Whiting made himself known for being a good player on the court and not for being white off of it. Being 6'7" and Caucasian on an small HBCU campus it's hard to be missed. Whiting never let that get to him, he always kept his up and just hooped. First year at UAPB he didn't get that much time on the court but he always produced when he was given playing time.
Sophomore year Whiting seen a big jump in playing time and he responded with good performances in games. He always known as the person that's going to dunk everything, during this season people found out he can really play. His confidence grew by game basically. Things kept getting better for him throughout the season and if you watched the team every game you knew Whiting's junior year had the potential to be a good one. Junior year comes and you can see the potential coming out. He had 3 double digit games straight off the bench during conference play and his confidence was sky high. He shot 49 percent from his junior year, that just came from his good shot selection that he takes pride in.
Senior year of course saw a bigger playing time role for the Lions as he was now basically the sixth man off the bench. He also started 7 games showing that coach Ivory had gained more confidence in him. He started the season with 14 points in an closer than expected game with Oklahoma State. League play came around and he went off against Alabama State with Ann career high 19 points going 3-3 from the 3 point line hitting shots from very far behind the arc. This was the game you saw the whole offensive arsenal and you saw the player he could be when given the opportunity.
His senior year came to an end and he ended up going to Mexico to play professionally. Over there he won a championship in the league he played in. After that he came back and got his degree in history from UAPB in 2017.
Basketball leads you to great people, sometimes we ask ourselves....."Where would we be without basketball?"
