Eli, oh Eli.
How much does certain things keep you relevant? Does things you did years and years ago make you just all popular or all time good? That's the question we ask about the New York Football Giants and their quarterback Eli Manning.
The Manning name is big around the NFL as Eli's dad Archie played in the NFL and his brother Peyton is an all time great NFL QB with some NFL records. Eli has won 2 Super Bowls and he beat Tom Brady in both. That seems to carry on his legacy like no other. If you actually look at the play he shouldn't be regarded as a top level QB. Before the 2016 season he missed the playoffs 4 seasons in a row. If you bring up Eli's name everybody would bring up the 2 super bowl seasons the Giants had under his lead. They never bring up any other good seasons that he's had or anything else he's done because he really hasn't done much outside the 2 championships.
When you break down someone's career and you look at the overall production and the overall things that one for the franchise you really figure out what one player has done for a team. Eli hasn't done much, he has started over 200 games in a row which is amazing but he hasn't had too many good seasons in New York.
This season the Giants offense has scored 13 points in 2 games. That's 8 quarters with one touchdown. One of the games best and most explosive players in Odell Beckham Jr. came back and the offense still didn't produce. Yet, on sports networks and talk shows you hear, "don't doubt Eli y'all know he's won 2 championships." How long do we look at before realizing that Eli Manning has been an average QB on a team with good defenses his early years? How long do we not question the Giants for not getting an actual backup QB to mange start some games for the Giants because Eli can't produce. I guess this is what 2 good seasons out of a whole career get you.
Now I want you ask yourself this.......Is Eli Manning the most overrated player in the NFL? Think about it.
