Joel Embiid, Joel Embiid. That’s the person getting a lot of buzz during the early part of the NBA season. The buzz is very warranted because Embiid has been dominating this NBA season. He is averaging 22.8 points and 10.9 rebounds a game. The thing is he doing this in 29 minutes a game! The way he moves for a 7 footer is insane. He can put the ball on the floor and post up with the best of them.
3 years ago, when he was drafted number 3 by Philadelphia 76ers he was injured. It was soon known that he would miss the whole 2014-2015 season with foot problems. The season goes on and the rumors about Embiid not being able to play the 2015-2016 season due to the same problems. Critics start questioning the 76ers management saying that they wasted a top 3 pick on a player that’s always injured. This seemed be the story of Embiid going forward. We all knew that he was talented, he probably would’ve went first in the 2014 NBA Draft because he was better than everyone else. The injury concerned causes to him to drop (if that’s what you want to call it) to 3rd in the draft.
The rumors came to be true Embiid also missed the 2015-2016 season with the same foot injury that caused him to miss the previous season. This time it was a little different though, there were videos going around of him working out actually doing basketball things. People were amazed and asking why he isn’t playing? No answers were given and we were forced to wait to the 2016-2017 season to see if he could get heathy enough to play.
The 2016-2017 shows up, and Embiid isn’t on the court again and people start to wonder again is he ever going to play? Then something happens, BOOM all of a sudden Embiid is clear to practice and play. About 30 games in he’s actually on the court playing. Of course he’s on minute restriction but he’s playing out of his mind. Then all of a sudden he is shut down for the season because of his foot. In his time on the court he dominated the NBA. He averaged 20.8 points and 7 rebounds a game. Thing is he only played 25 minutes a game. So we knew what to expect from him in a real NBA game. I believe they shut him down because they knew that they weren’t going to win yet so it was no reason to risk injury.
2017-2018 preseason shows up, Embiid isn’t cleared for 5 on 5 play yet. The preseason is a couple games in about and he gets cleared . Embiid shows up dominating again and having fun doing it. He says what he wants on and off the court. We saw it all come together when the 76ers went to Los Angeles to play the Lakers. Embiid had 46 points, 15 rebounds, 7 assists, and 7 blocks in 34 minutes. Everybody that night saw what the 76ers waited on. He has an argument on being the best Center in the league now. Remember 3 years ago?.......
